We are two radiologists whose practices have been devoted to obstetrical ultrasound for more than twenty years. We decided to write YOUR DEVELOPING BABY because we saw a need among our patients--a hunger for even the smallest detail of information that we could give them about their unborn babies. Through the book and this website, we hope to share with expectant parents, as well as others interested in the miracle of pregnancy, a glimpse into the mysteries of the womb and an understanding of how the baby grows and develops before birth.

In addition to our practices, we are both Professors of Radiology at Harvard Medical School. We teach and see patients at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital, where Peter is Senior Vice-Chair of Radiology, and Carol is Director of Ultrasound and Co-Director of High Risk Obstetrical Ultrasound. Together, we have co-authored textbooks, scientific articles and book chapters on obstetrical ultrasound and lectured on the subject around the world.

One of Peter's research interests is in the analysis of fetal (unborn baby) growth and on mathematical approaches to medical decision-making. (He also has a Ph.D. in mathematics from MIT.) Carol's research involves multiple pregnancies and the ultrasound diagnosis of pregnancy problems. She is currently involved in research on the use of surgery on the developing baby in the uterus to correct problems before birth.

We are also married (to each other), and between us have five children.
